The City of Roanoke Fair Housing Board is a resource to help you understand the federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to fair housing. To learn more about Fair Housing and how it affects you, contact us.

Fair Housing Act


The Fair Housing Act covers most housing transactions including rentals, home sales, advertising, mortgage lending, home improvements, and zoning activities, but only if one is discriminated on the basis of one of the following protected classes as defined by federal, state, and /or local law, as follows:
  • Color
  • Familial Status
  • Handicap
  • National Origin
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • The City of Roanoke law adds Age and Marital Status
  • The Commonwealth of Virginia law adds Elderliness

The City of Roanoke's Fair Housing Ordinance was adopted October 1, 2007.

Fair Housing Board Meeting

The Fair Housing Board meeting will be held on July 25, 2017 at 4PM in Room 
308 North at City Hall. 

The regular meeting dates are the third Tuesday at 4PM Quarterly - January, April, July, and October of each year.
