ROANOKE POLICE MAKE ARREST IN AVALON AVENUE MURDER Roanoke, Va.- On February 13, 2017 at 5:29 p.m. Roanoke Police responded to the 2600 block of Avalon Avenue NW after a neighbor found a woman dead inside the home. Evidence at the scene indicated her death was a homicide. The victim was identified as Tiffany Early Carroll, age 43, of Roanoke. Officers interviewed witnesses and gathered potential physical evidence at the scene. Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed Steven Ray Hartman, age 44, of Roanoke County as a suspect. Officers found Hartman in the 1100 block of 16th Street SE and he was arrested without incident. Hartman has been charged with one count of second degree murder. Hartman had been involved in a relationship with Carroll. Officers also served him with three outstanding warrants from Roanoke County. He was taken to the Roanoke City Jail. The investigation is ongoing. The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
