Renovation and Expansion of Williamson Road Branch Library

Project Description:

This project calls for the significant renovation of the existing 6,100 sq. ft. facility along with expansion to add approximately 4,300 sq. ft. of new floor space. The program for the revamped facility will nearly double the children’s area; significantly increase space offered for tutoring and meetings, to include doubling the size of the current public meeting room; and enhancements to the “Library to Your Door” program offered to seniors and homebound patrons. Exterior materials will include masonry, aluminum storefront and curtain wall, and metal panels. The building’s interior will be completely demolished and all new finishes will be installed, many of those using sustainable materials. The project will also incorporate critical maintenance and operation concerns to include replacement of the existing heating and air-conditioning system, plumbing and electrical systems, as well as abatement of asbestos-containing materials that remain in the building. One critical goal of the project is to significantly improve the energy-efficiency of the building by incorporating a number of modern features such as LED light fixtures, daylight harvesting, automatic lighting controls, operable blinds and other similar features.
